Jackals Take a Second Game In Québec

Québec City, QC- Ryan Velazquez got the start for the Jackals and pitched into the fifth inning. The right gave up five hits and three runs, all on solo home runs, before turning things over to the bullpen.

New Jersey took the lead in the top of the first on a Gustavo Sosa RBI single to center field. The Capitales answered as Torin Montgomery hit his first of two home runs in the bottom of the second tying the game at one apiece. T.J. Schofield-Sam followed with a solo shot in the third to put Québec on top 2-1.

DeAmez Ross blasted his third career home run, a two-run shot in the fourth to put New Jersey back on top. Montgomery homered for the second time in the bottom half, tying the game at three.

In the sixth, Felix Stevens led off the inning with a drive to right for his 21st home run of the year. Anuedis Mordán followed with a two-run shot with two outs to make it 6-3 Jackals. New Jersey would add a run on an RBI single by Ross in the seventh.

Although the Capitales cut the lead to 7-5 on a Chavez Young two-run single, the game was called when the rain came down harder with two outs in the top of the eighth.

The win was history for the Jackals. New Jersey tied the 2007 Windy City ThunderBolts with the best single-season improvement at plus 27 wins from the year before. The Jackals will look for a rare sweep in Québec on Thursday as they send Sonny Fauci to the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm from Stade Canac.
