Jackals Start Important Weekend Strong

Augusta, NJ- The Jackals jumped out early and relied on their ace on their way to a 6-2 win on Friday night against the Sussex County Miners.

Sonny Fauci coming off a rough start his last time out in Québec last Friday was fantastic a week later on his way to his eighth win of the year. The New Jersey native went seven strong giving up just two runs on six hits.

Four runs in the first for the Jackals gave them all the runs they needed. After a hit by pitch of David Glancy, Alvaro Gonzalez hit a single to center field. On a throwing error by Miners third baseman Dean Ferrara, Glancy came home to score the first run. Felix Stevens lined a single to center to put New Jersey up 2-0. An error by Hunter D’Amato extended the inning as DeAmez Ross laced a single to right field putting across another two making it 4-0.

Fauci had the slider and curveball working all game on his way to eight strikeouts putting him in a tie amongst the league leaders in strikeouts. Martin Figueroa added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-2. In the ninth, Figueroa came through with an RBI single to make it 6-2.  Chase Hungate came on in the eighth and escaped a jam. Hungate stayed and rolled a double play to end the game in the ninth.

The Jackals are yet to announce a starter for game two. They will look for another win on Saturday as first pitch is set for 6:35 pm from Skylands Stadium in Augusta.
