Ryan Velazquez made the start for the Jackals on Wednesday night. The righty went into the seventh inning allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six Rox batters.
The Rox opened the scoring on a fielder’s choice in the top of the second. New Jersey took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Aneudis Mordán singled to left, tying the game at one. DeAmez Ross proceeded to lay down a bunt single with the bases loaded bringing home a second run.
Brockton responded in the top of the fifth on a two-run single from Greg Cristino. The Jackals tallied seven hits in the game and left a total of 10 men on base compared to the just two baserunners Brockton stranded. In the ninth, Martin Figueroa led off with a walk and was moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Breyln Jones. After a Felix Stevens strikeout, Alvaro Gonzalez was down to his final strike of the night when he dunked a single into left field to tie the game. Gustavo Sosa lined a single to right that moved Gonzalez to third. Rox closer Brendan Bell threw a wild pitch with two strikes allowing the winning run to score.
The Jackals will look for the sweep on Thursday when they send Sonny Fauci to the mound. First pitch on Thursday is set for 7:30 pm at Hinchliffe Stadium.
