PAVLIK NAMED CAN-AM LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SOUTHPAW TOSSED COMPLETE-GAME SHUTOUT
The Can-Am League has announced that New Jersey Jackals left-hander Isaac Pavlik has been named the Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 25. This marks the fourth time in his career that Pavlik has received league Pitcher of the Week honors.
In his lone start last week on Thursday, July 22 at Sussex, Pavlik, 30, fired a complete-game, five-hit shutout to lead the Jackals to a 2-0 win over the Skyhawks and snap New Jersey’s three-game losing streak. In that contest, the left-hander struck out a season-high seven batters without surrendering a walk. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning en-route to winning his second straight decision. Pavlik’s outing marked the first complete-game shutout in a nine-inning contest in the Can-Am League this season (Chris Farley of the Worcester Tornadoes hurled a shutout in a seven-inning game on June 13 at Pittsfield).
In his sixth season with the Jackals, Pavlik is the longest-tenured player on New Jersey’s roster. Pavlik, a New Jersey native who is in his ninth professional season after being selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round of the 2002 draft out of Seton Hall University, is in his first year doubling as the Jackals’ pitching coach.
In six games (two starts) against Sussex this season, Pavlik has tossed 20 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just 10 hits.
Pavlik is New Jersey’s all-time leader in appearances while his 40 victories rank second in team history. Pavlik, who began the 2010 season in the Jackals bullpen, led the team with 18 starts in 2009 while finishing fifth in the Can-Am League with 75 strikeouts and ninth with a 3.66 ERA. Pavlik has gone at least five innings in 43 of his last 47 starts. Pavlik reached the Double-A level in 2006 when he posted a 2-1 record and a 3.38 ERA in nine games for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx after the Chicago Cubs purchased his contract from the Jackals.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2010 season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
