RAYS OF SUNSHINE: EX-TAMPA MLBer JOINS JACKALS

Little Falls, NJ – The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of former Major League player Shawn Riggans for the 2010 season.

Riggans last played in the Major League with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009 where he appeared in 7 games. In 2008, Riggans was the backup catcher for the Rays on their American League winning season. In 44 games, Riggans had a .222 batting average with 6 home runs.

“We are extremely excited to have Shawn for the 2010 season.” Commented Manager Joe Calfapietra. “He will be a great addition to the team and we hope his experience in the Major League and in the World Series will translate into a winning mindset in the clubhouse.”

Riggans, a 24th round pick in the 2000 amateur draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, has played ten seasons of professional baseball. In nine seasons in the minors, Riggans has a .290 batting average with 52 home runs, 116 doubles, and 276 RBI. Most recently, Riggans played in four games for the New York Mets organization in the start of the 2010 season. In the four games, Riggans went three for ten with two doubles.
