JONES-ING FOR ANOTHER CHANCE: JONES SIGNS WITH ATLANTA
The New Jersey Jackals have announced that infielder Michael Jones has signed with the Atlanta Braves organization. Jones becomes the fifth Jackals player to sign with a Major League organization since the end of the 2009 season.
Jones spent the 2009 season playing for the Boston Red Sox Single-A affiliate Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League. Jones finished the season with a .283 batting average with six home runs, 26 doubles, and 59 RBI in 108 games. Jones started his professional career in 2005 when he signed with the Boston Red Sox organization. For his five year professional career, Jones has a .299 batting average with 33 home runs, 89 doubles and 221 RBI.
“We are very excited for Michael.” Manager Joe Calfapietra commented. “Hopefully he will have the chance to move up through the Braves organization and get one step closer to achieving his dream of playing in the major leagues.”
Jones joins Myron Leslie (New York Yankees) Timo Perez (Los Angeles Dodgers), Chris Garcia (Pittsburgh), and Stuart Pomeranz (Colorado), as players to sign with a Major League organization since the end of the 2009 season. Jones also becomes the 20th Jackals player to sign since the beginning of the 2006 season.
The Jackals wish Michael Jones the best of luck for the 2010 season. |
