LIVING THE DREAM: JACKALS 2010 ALUMNI UPDATE
The New Jersey Jackals have had 19 players sign with a Major League organization since the beginning of the 2006 season. All with hopes of following Craig Breslow’s path to the bigs. For the start of the 2010 season, the Jackals have five players in affiliated baseball.
The Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be the home for two former Jackals in John Lindsey and Timo Perez. Lindsey, a member of the 2005 and 2006 Jackals squads, has excelled at the Triple-A level. In three seasons, Lindsey has a .297 AVG at the Triple-A level with 64 home runs and 271 RBI.
Perez, a former World Champion, played with the Jackals during the 2009 season. In eight seasons in the Major League, Perez had a .269 AVG with 26 home runs and 185 RBI. Perez was a member of the World Series Champion Chicago White Sox in 2005.
Two more Jackals will start the 2010 season at the Double-A level. Ramon Nivar, member of the 2008 Jackals squad, has played three seasons in the Major Leagues with the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles. Nivar will play for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate Chattanooga Lookouts in 2010.
The Tulsa Drillers, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, will be the new home for Stuart Pomeranz, member of the 2009 Jackals team. Pomeranz, who was drafted out of high school in the second round of the 2003 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, was the Jackals opening day pitcher in the 2009 season.
The final Jackal in affiliated baseball is Myron Leslie. Leslie, member of the 2009 Jackals team, will start the 2010 season with the Tampa Yankees, High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Leslie, who was a 2004 eighth round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics, enters his seventh professional season after spending the 2007 and 2008 seasons at the Double-A level with the Midland RockHounds. In 2009, Leslie was a two time Batter of the Week in the Can-Am League and his hot start to the season earned him the Batter of the Month award for the month of June.
Lastly, former member of the 2004 championship Jackals squad, Craig Breslow has started the 2010 season with the Oakland A’s. In his fifth season in the Major Leagues, Breslow has become one of the best left-handed specialists in the game. In 2008, he played in a career best 77 games. In 155 appearances, Breslow is 8-11 with a 2.77 ERA.
The New Jersey Jackals would like to wish all players on their continued success as they strive to fulfill their dream of playing in the Major Leagues. |
